I made a lot of mistakes as an author over my twenty year career. One of the mistakes I regret the most was not to connect to the energy of my book before starting to write it. I forgive myself for that mistake because this is not something that is taught in writing circles. No one had ever told me how important it was. I had to find out by myself. And I made the mistake not once but twice, for each of my published books.

The first time it happened was when I wrote my first book in English (I am a French native speaker) after a ten year writer’s block. I had finally opened the taps of my writing and the words were flowing out. 100,000 words into that book that excited me, I decided to go see a clairvoyant to suss out my chances of success with that book. I hardly had time to sit down before she said “This is not the book you are supposed to write right now. This book will come but the timing is off. What you are supposed to write is…” This is not what you want to hear when you have written 100,000 words, believe me.

It happened again to me with my second book. I signed up for a writing course and was convinced that I would be working on my novel. But when the course leader asked us to go on a date with your books to our local cafes, the book that turned up on the date was not my novel. It was a memoir. Surprise surprise. At least, I learnt from my mistake and this happened before I set to write thousands of words, of the wrong book.

It is now my passion to help people connect to the energy of their books. It is the first of the seven golden steps of getting started, a process I have honed through trial and error over the past ten years. I run regular live webinars where I help people connect to the energy of their books.

Connecting to the energy of your book is module 1 of my five week course on how to get started with your book. Click here to find out more.

To your writing,
