When I transferred my business online after deciding to home educate my younger children, I had to face some incredibly challenging visibility blocks. In one of the groups I joined, I would not even post a selfie so I posted a photo of my kermit puppet. It took me months to come to terms with showing my face. Now, I do FB lives on a regular basis and people think I am a selfie queen. I am sharing my journey so that it can inspired other people like me who are incredibly camera shy or even traumatised by cameras, as I was.
I took it in stages. The first stage was to get on selfies. I actually found that by taking control of the photos taken of me, I could chose flattering angles and even restore my body image. I was no longer fat an ugly, as I believed I was when I believed the pictures of me that people with no talent whatsoever had taken of me in parties or at gatherings. I talk about the four stages that I went through with selfies in my podcast episode.
The next step was to go on FB lives. Again, it was a slow process. It is not possible to overcome visibility blocks by reading about it just like it is not possible to learn to swim by watching others. The work is in throwing yourself in the deep end of the pool. Then it becomes your new normal. In the podcast episode, I give my top tips on how to take a good selfie and how to do a good FB live.
If your weight or body image is holding you back from being fully visible in your business, I encourage you to sign up for my Slim Soul newsletter where I share tips to overcome these. I have a very exciting pilot round of an eight week course coming up in early November and if you want to be a part of it, you need to be on my mailing list. Join here.
